Dominican Embassy organizes the ‘Dominican Republic Experience Bachata Night” in New Delhi

New Delhi - On December 13th, 2022, the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in India organized a Bachata Night at Miso Sexy, to promote one of the country's most renowned musical genres.

Emerging from rural social gatherings, Bachata is a danceable musical genre that has taken by storm radio stations from all over the world and inspired people from the most diverse cultural backgrounds to move their hips to its unique cadence. A milestone for this Dominican rhythm of humble origins was its inscription, in 2019, in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO.

During the Bachata Night, more than 250 attendees had the opportunity to learn the basic dance steps of the Dominican rhythm, thanks to a workshop organized by the Embassy with local dancers Guarav and Yana, and savor national products such as cigars and rum. The event featured the welcome drink cocktail "Muy Taíno," a Dominican-rum-based beverage authored by the award-winning Dominican Mixologist Lisander Lara Peña.
