H.E. David Puig was born in Santo Domingo on May 23, 1980. He joined the Dominican Foreign Service in 2004 and has been posted in France, India, Egypt and Belgium.

He holds two bachelor degrees, in political sciences and international relations from Sciences Po Paris and in philosophy from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, as well as a Master’s in political thought from Sciences Po Paris.

Throughout his diplomatic career he has worked in both bilateral and multilateral settings, and has represented the Dominican Republic in negotiations and international fora.

After two years as Counsellor in Paris, he served from 2006 to 2010 at the Dominican Embassy in India. He contributed in that capacity to the establishment of the Dominican Embassy in New Delhi and worked on the development of the bilateral political, economical, cooperation and cultural agendas between India and the Dominican Republic.

From 2011 to 2017, David Puig was Deputy chief of mission in Egypt. Between 2017 and 2020, he was charged with political affairs at the Dominican Embassy to the Kingdom of Belgium and Mission to the European Union, and formed part of the negotiating team for a post-Cotonou Agreement.

To his command of English, Spanish and French, he has added, through his time in India and the Middle East, conversational skills in Hindi and Egyptian Arabic.

Beyond his work for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, he has been active in the cultural and literary scene in the Dominican Republic as a publisher, translator and author. In 2010, he launched Ediciones De a Poco, a publishing house focused on contemporary literature and art books from the Caribbean region.

In his free time he likes to practice yoga, explore cities on foot and follow walking trails in the countryside.
