Biviana Riveiro, Director ProDominicana, participates in the 9th CII India-Lac Business Conclave
Ms. Biviana Riveiro, Executive Director of Pro Dominicana, and Mr. Marcial Smester, Director for Investments at ProDominicana, represented the Dominican Republic in the 9th India-LAC Business Conclave, held in New Delhi on 3rd and 4th August 2023. Organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Conclave was inaugurated by India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, along with Mr. R Dinesh, President of CII, and Mr. Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General of CII.
High level business and government delegations from 15 Latin American and Caribbean countries graced the conclave with their presence. The conclave featured sessions dedicated to exploring business opportunities between India, Latin America and the Caribbean in sectors such as healthcare and pharmaceuticals, electrical and automotive industries, IT and electronics, infrastructure and energy, agriculture and food processing, among others. Country specific sessions dedicated to Guyana and Venezuela, as well as regional panels on CARICOM and SICA were also part of the program. Biviana Riveiro participated in the panel on the India-SICA partnership , along with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Honduras, Mr. Enrique Reina. During the conclave, she also met several Indian companies interested in developing their presence in the Dominican market.
As part of her work visit to India, Biviana Riveiro held a series of meetings in New Delhi aimed at strengthening the commerce and investment ties between the Dominican Republic and India. On 2nd August, she addressed representatives of more than 25 Indian companies, in an interactive session titled “Investment opportunities in the Dominican Republic”, held at Le Méridien Hotel. The same day she met Mr. Sunil Barthwal, Commerce Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, Mr. Utpal Gokhle, Chief General Manager at EximBank, and Ms. Nivruti Rai, Managing Director of Invest India. Biviana Riveiro and Nivruti Rai took the opportunity of their meeting to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between ProDominicana and Invest India.
Biviana Riveiro concluded her work visit to India with a courtesy call to Meenakshi Lekhi, Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture. The meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 4th August, was the occasion to reiterate the commitment of both countries to reinforce their economic relations.
