Two Dominican films participate at the 52nd India International Film Festival in Goa 2021

New Delhi – Two Dominican feature films were presentend at the 52nd edition of the India International Film Festival (IFFI), which took place from the 20th to the 28th of November 2021, at Panaji, the capital of the Indian state of Goa: “Rafaela” from director Tito Rodriguez, produced by Destiny Films and starring Judith Rodriguez Perez, Hony Estrella and Gerardo Mercedes, and “A film about couples” starring and directed by Oriol Estrada and Natalia Cabral, produced by Faula Films. 

“Rafaela”, which had its world premiere at the Festival, is the story of a girl born and raised in a underprivileged neigbhorhood in Santo Domingo, who finds her way out of the criminal network she has joined to earn a living.  The actresses Judith Rodríguez and Hony Estrella and the producer Edward Díaz all travelled to represent the film during the festival.

“A film about couples'', which saw its Asian premier at IFFI, tells the story of two married filmmakers who develop their projects and careers together. With touches of humor, it presents the challenges and the rewardss of love-work relationships. Natalia Cabral and Oriol Estrada, actors and directors of the film, were both invited to present the film at the festival.

The screenings of these Dominican films at IFFI were well reported by the national press of India and the Dominican Republic. 

Our Mission was represented at the Festival by Ana Ferrand, first secretary in charge of Culture and Cooperation. She took the opportunity to meet with high officials of the Goa Film Festival and to exchange on ways to expand the cooperation between the festival and the Dominican Republic.
