Dominican officials and CDRI representatives exchange on Resilient Infrastructures

New Delhi - On Monday 27th September 2021, officials from various Dominican ministries and public institutions took part in an online exchange with representatives from the Delhi based Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).

The Dominican participation for this meeting was coordinated by Mr. Rodrigo Fincheira from the National Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism (CNCCMDL), in collaboration with the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in India. It counted with representatives from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED), National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDHRI), Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPYD), Ministry of the Presidency and CNCCMDL.

One of the objectives of this exchange, convened at the request of the CDRI, was to present the technical assistance facility Infrastructures for Resilient Island States (IRIS), a CDRI cooperation program for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) that will be launched at the coming COP26.  It also aimed to discuss and understand the challenges faced by the Dominican Republic in terms of resilient infrastructures, in order to explore potential areas of cooperation in the framework of the technical assistance facility.

In his introductory remarks, Ambassador David Puig mentioned that since his arrival to Delhi, in February 2021, he has “been engaging with the CDRI and working to get the Dominican Republic closer to this initiative”.  “As a SIDS country in the Caribbean we are increasingly aware of how vulnerable we are to climate change, to climate related natural disasters and to other natural events” he added.

The Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) is a partnership of national governments, UN agencies, multilateral development banks and financing mechanisms, the private sector, and knowledge institutions that aims to promote the resilience infrastructure systems to climate and disaster risks. Its strategic priorities are Technical Support and Capacity-building, Research and Knowledge Management, and Advocacy and Partnerships.
