Dominican Republic participates in the 4th General Assembly of the International Solar Alliance


New Delhi - The Dominican Republic participated in the 4th General Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), held from the 18th to the 21st October 2021, with a delegation composed of representatives of the National Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism (CNCCMDL), the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in New Delhi.  

The Ministerial meeting of the Assembly took place on the 20th of October. It was chaired by Union minister for power and new and renewable energy of India, Mr. RK Singh. Mr. Max Puig, Executive vice president  of CNCCMDL, and Mr. Gustavo Mejía Ricart, head of International Relations at the Ministry of Energy and Mines of the Dominican Republic, represented the Dominican Republic in the high level segment. 

The European Commission Executive Vice President for the European Green Deal, Mr. Frans Timmermans addressed the gathering, while the United States Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry, delivered the keynote address. The Assembly was attended by 108 countries, including 74 member countries and 34 observer and prospective countries. 23 Partner organizations and 33 special invited organisations also took party in the deliberations.

A franco-indian initiative launched in 2015, with headquarters in Gurugam, India, the ISA has been conceived as a coalition of solar-resource-rich countries to address their special energy needs. It aims at being "an action-oriented, member-driven, collaborative platform for increased deployment of solar energy technologies to enhance energy security and sustainable development, and to improve access to energy in developing member countries".
