“Comalo” initiative takes part in the Serendipity Foundation Food Lab

NEW DELHI - On 28th September 2021, Dominican Chef Olivier Blur and photographer José Ronzón where invited to address the participants of the Serendipity Arts Foundation Food Lab Residency. With a lecture titled “On documenting food origins” and delivered on-line, they shared the research on Dominican culinary cultures they have been undertaking with the “Comalo” initiative.  

This collaboration between “Comalo” and the Serendipity Arts Foundation was spearheaded and facilitated by the Embassy of Dominican Republic in New Delhi, as part of its  efforts to bring closer cultural institutions and practitioners from the Dominican Republic and India.  

Launched earlier this year, “Comalo” describes itself as “a space for sharing knowledge about the culinary cultures in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean. What we eat, how we prepare what we eat, are our central ideas of conversation where we engage in tracing what builds culinary traditions and the politics of food in the island and region”.

Curated by Elisabeth York, the Food Lab is a hybrid residency program, part virtual and part physical, developed as part of the initiatives of the Serendipity Foundation. For a period of three months, between August and October 2021,  two selected residents will have the opportunity to reflect about the power of food and to develop their own research projects through a program of talks and workshops on a variety of issues including Food Origins/History; Food Inequality/Sustainability; Food Policy; Food and Culture/Traditions. 

The outcomes of the residency program will be shown at the Serendipity Foundation space C340.
