Dominican delegation attends the launch of CDRI initiative “Infrastructure for Resilient Island States” at COP26 


New Delhi - On the 2nd November 2021, Mr. Max Puig, Executive vice president of the National Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism (CNCCMDL) and co-head of the Dominican delegation at COP26, attended the launch of the “Infrastructure for Resilient Island States” (IRIS) program, an initiative of the Delhi based Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI). Mr. Puig was accompanied by other members of the Dominican delegation to the COP26, including representatives from the CNCCMDL, the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic. 

A cooperation initiative aimed at strengthening the resilience of infrastructures in the SIDS countries, IRIS was jointly launched by the Prime Ministers of India, United Kingdom, Australia, Fiji, Jamaica and Mauritius.   

The presence of the Dominican Republic in the launch of IRIS in Glasgow follows the online exchange held on Monday 27th September 2021, between officials from various Dominican ministries and public institutions, and representatives from the Delhi based Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) on the potential areas of cooperation under the framework of IRIS.  

The Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) is a partnership of national governments, UN agencies, multilateral development banks and financing mechanisms, the private sector, and knowledge institutions that aims to promote the resilience infrastructure systems to climate and disaster risks. Its strategic priorities are Technical Support and Capacity-building, Research and Knowledge Management, and Advocacy and Partnerships
