Ambassador of the DR to India, H.E. Puig, presents credentials to the President of Sri Lanka

New Delhi - The Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Republic of India, H.E. David Puig, presented on December 21st, 2021, his Letters of Credence as concurrent Ambassador before the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

During his visit to Sri Lanka, Ambassador Puig met with the Foreign Minister, Gamini Lakshman Peiris, and the Secretary for External Affairs, Admiral Jayanath Colombage. He was also received by the Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa.

In his conversations with Sri Lankan officials, Ambassador Puig highlighted the similarities and the challenges faced by Sri Lanka and the Dominican Republic, two island states highly dependent on tourism and particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. He also underlined that, despite the geographical distance, the two nations have found ways to collaborate in the economic field with Sri Lankan investments in the border area between the Dominican Republic and Haiti in the textile sector.

Ambassador Puig also took the opportunity to meet the Director of the Latin America and Caribbean Division of the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ransiri Perera, with whom he reviewed the status of the agreements under negotiation between Sri Lanka and the Dominican Republic. On this matter, H.E. David Puig stated that "there is a palpable will of both countries to finalize these agreements and to continue finding paths of collaboration and exchange for mutual benefit."

To conclude his visit to Sri Lanka, Ambassador Puig was received at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, one of the oldest and most important business chambers in Sri Lanka. The purpose of this visit was to identify actions that can lead to increased exchanges between the business communities of both countries.
