Embassy of the Dominican Republic participates in the “The way forward” EULAT 4 Culture Project


New Delhi - The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in India participated in “The way forward” EULAT 4 Culture Project, which featured 6 events spread across September and October 2022. The aim of this project was to connect Indian, Latin American and European youth to diplomats and key experts to foster, through dialogue, a better understanding of the relationship between India and Latin American countries, with Europe acting as a catalyst.

A youth commission, a case study competition, a round table discussion and a cultural fest were some of the events organized in the framework of “The way forward”. The participation of our embassy in those events was  project was coordinated by First Secretary Bianca Báez.

For the youth commission, which focused on connecting students from different universities among the countries participating in the project, our Embassy coordinated the participation of Ms. Maite Espinal, a second year student of liberal studies from the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), and Mr. Alois Kujur, a Claretian Missionary from India who is completing his studies to become a deacon priest at the Institute of Dominicos. Both spoke about the experience of studying in the Dominican Republic and the educational opportunities the country offered. This event was hosted at the Embassy of Colombia in New Delhi on September 21st, 2022.

On September 29th, 2022 the case study competition was held on a hybrid format at the Embassy of Chile in New Delhi. The topic was a hypothetical case related to the environment and sustainability. From the Dominican Republic, we had the participation of students José Duran, Yan Carlos Perez and Arismendy Del Orbe, all from the university Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC). Also, prof. Jeanette Chaljub, who is currently the Academic Cordinator of Basic and Environmental Sciences Degree Level at INTEC, joined as a judge for the competition.

The roundtable discussion, held on October 13th, 2022, at the Instituto Cervantes in New Delhi, focused on the state of relations between the three regions involved in the project. The panellists were Mr. José María Ridao Domínguez (Ambassador of Spain), Mr. Jorge Heine (Former Ambassador of Chile to India), Mr. Deepak Bhojwani (Former Ambassador) and Dr. Ash Narain Roy (Director, Institute of Social Sciences, Latin America specialists). The panel was moderate by Dr. Noorin Khan, Associate Professor, Centre for European and Latin American Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia University.

The 15th October, 2022, the Festival, “Leap into Culture: a Spectrum of Opportunities”, was organized at the Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi. The fest was a one-day event where several embassies, educational institutions and youth got a chance to partake in various activities through interactive stalls in the form of games, exhibitions and photo booths. 17 European and Latin American embassies displayed art, food and music, providing a unique experience to understand their cultures. Amongst the workshops conducted, our embassy proposed live Bachata Classes.
