Dominican Republic, Brazil, Colombia, and Jamaica present a musical evening in New Delhi

New Delhi-  On 7th October 2022, the embassies of the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Colombia, and the High Commission of Jamaica presented, at the India International Centre, in New Delhi, the concert “Music4Countries”. The event showcased several traditional musical pieces from each participant country, interpreted by the Indo-Latin American Band Abakorao. First Secretary Ana Ferrand served as master of ceremony for the evening.

The audience danced to the rhythm of Dominican merengues, La Bilirubina and Visa para un sueño, two masterful compositions by Juan Luis Guerra, one of the most renowned Latin America musicians. Abakorao also presented a cover version of the Bachata classic Me enamoré, interpreted by one of the genre's more prominent artists, Anthony Santos.

Juan Luis Guerra's Visa para un sueño and  La Billirubina are merengue pieces that touch on complex sociopolitical issues like migration and corruption,  and portray the intricacies and the challenges of living in a developing country.  Anthony Santos' Me enamoré is one of those classic bachata tracks that transport the listener into a melancholic state and fill them with passion, sadness, and excitement, all together.

Abakorao also performed the songs: Garota de Ipanema, Mais que Nada, and Magalengha, from Brazil; La casa en el aire, Oiga, Mire, Vea and La Tierra del Olvido, from Colombia; and Smile Jamaica, Tight Ship, and Is this Love, from Jamaica.
