Director General of the CDRI visits the Dominican Republic

New Delhi –  The recently appointed Director General of the Coalition for the Development of Resilient Infrastructures (CDRI), Mr. Amit Prothi, visited the Dominican Republic from the 18th to the 22nd of July 2022, to participate in the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Climate Week and to lead a series of meetings with high level officials from the Dominican Republic government.

The agenda of the CDRI visit was coordinated with the support of the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in India and the National Council on Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism (NCCCDM). Mr. Prothi was accompanied by Alpana Saha, Lead Specialist - Partnerships and External Relations, and Riya Rahiman, Lead Specialist - Infrastructure for Resilient Island States (IRIS) at the CDRI.

Within the framework of the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Climate Week, the CDRI organized two round of consultations with representatives from the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) of the Caribbean. Those exchanges were aimed at identifying the challenges and the priorities of the region in regards to the resilience of the infrastructure, in order for the CDRI to develop its Caribbean strategy, previous to the launch at the coming COP27 of the call for proposals for its Infrastructure for Resilient Island States (IRIS) program.  

With the objective of strengthening its relations with the Dominican Republic and to explore future avenues of collaboration under the IRIS program, the CDRI representatives held meetings with Mr. Carlos Bonilla, Minister of Housing; Olaya Dotel, Vice minister for Economy, Planning and Development; José Ramón Holguin, Vice minister of the Presidency; Ruben Silie, Vice minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Max Puig, Executive Vice president of the  National Council on Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism (NCCCDM) and Jean Luis Rodriguez, Director of the Dominican Republic Port Authority.

In December 2021, the Dominican Republic joined the CDRI becoming its 28th member. Led by the Government of India, the CDRI is a global alliance of governments, United Nations agencies, development banks, and the private sector, with the mission to promote the resilience of infrastructure systems against climate risks and natural disasters.

Under the leadership of The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, CDRI has become one of India's main initiatives in the fight against global warming and the effects of climate change.
