Capacity building cooperation under ITEC program continues to grow

New Delhi – In line with the commitments expressed in recent high-level meetings of officials of the Dominican Republic and India, the capacity building cooperation between the two countries continues to grow. In the last trimester of 2023, several Dominican professionals received trainings in India in sectors such as Data Analytics and Risk Management, Digital Public Infrastructure, Sustainable Development Goals and Computer Application for Agriculture, under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC). The selected participants who spent between two- and three-weeks in India are from the Ministry of Public Administration, the Ministry of the Presidency, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic.

Since the establishment of their diplomatic relations in 2004, India and the Dominican Republic have been strengthening their cooperation under the ITEC framework. In 2022 and 2023 two specials courses for Dominican professionals were organized in India on Cybersecurity and Remote Sensing.

The ITEC is the flagship bilateral assistance programme of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India. It is a demand-driven, response-oriented programme that focuses on addressing the needs of developing countries through innovative technological cooperation, exchange of technical know-how and expertise, training and capacity building. In partnership with a wide a range of leading educational Indian institutions, ITEC has developed over the years classroom and online training for government officials and citizens of partner countries.
