Dominican professionals receive training in India in satellite image processing


New Delhi - A group of 14 professionals from the Dominican Republic participated, from January 9 to March 3, 2023, in a Remote Sensing training program with an emphasis on digital image processing, organized at the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) in the city of Dehradun.

The realization of this training, funded by the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Program (ITEC), was agreed by India and the Dominican Republic during the second meeting of political consultations between the two nations held in Santo Domingo, in July 2022.

The course was attended by Dominican officials from various government institutions, including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development, the National Integrated Information System , the National Seismology Center, the Government Office of Information and Communication Technologies, the Dominican Coffee Institute, the National Geological Service, the National Geographic Institute, National Irrigation Technification, and the National Council for Climate Change and Mechanism of clean development

Referring to this cooperation initiative provided by the Indian government, the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Republic of India, HE David Puig, expressed that "Dominican professionals return from India with concrete knowledge whose application can serve the national development in various sectors.”  He also highlighted "the immense potential of satellite image processing in the prevention of natural disasters, in risk assessment as well as in the efficient management of agriculture."

The India Economic and Technical Cooperation Program is a bilateral assistance program funded by the Government of India that aims to address the needs of developing countries through training initiatives. In addition to the Dominican Republic, the program has partnerships with more than 158 countries, including states in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America. Since its founding in 1964, ITEC has invested more than 2,000 million dollars in providing technical assistance to the countries incorporated into the program, which has benefited thousands of students and professionals from all over the world.

In 2022, within the framework of ITEC, 18 Dominican professionals were trained in India in Cybersecurity, malware analysis and reverse engineering in the city of Mohali, in the state of Punjab.
