Two Dominican Republic projects to be funded under CDRI program

New Delhi - In a momentous stride towards bolstering disaster resilience infrastructure, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) announced on October 30, 2023, the selected projects earmarked for funding under the first call of proposals of its program Infrastructure for Resilient Island States (IRIS).

Amongst the eleven projects chosen to receive funding, two Dominican Republic proposals, one national and one regional, have been selected. The Dominican Republic's national proposal focuses on enhancing early warning systems to pre-empt disasters triggered by natural events. The Dominican Republic Republic-Haiti-Cuba Regional Proposal has been collaboratively designed to enhance the resilience of critical infrastructure across borders.

The Dominican Republic proposals were coordinated by the National Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism along with the Dominican Republic Embassy in New Delhi. A multi-stakeholder effort ensued, involving contributions from the National Commission of Emergencies, the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (Mepyd), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of the Presidency of the Dominican Republic.
