Dominican Republic participates in the 6th Assembly of the International Solar Alliance

New Delhi- The Dominican Republic participated in the sessions of the 6th Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), held from October 30 to November 2, 2023, in New Delhi, India. Mr. Rodrigo Fincheira, Advisor for Interinstitutional Affairs of the National Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism, represented the Dominican Republic along with Mr. Gustavo Sosa, Minister Counsellor of our mission.

Under the leadership of Shri Raj Kumar Singh, Minister of Power and Renewable Energy of the Government of India, who presided over the ISA Assembly, the event saw the participation of ministers from 20 countries and delegates from 116 member and signatory countries. As signatory country of the ISA Framework Agreement the Dominican Republic participated as an observer in the deliberations of the 6th Assembly of the International Solar Alliance.

Critical global energy future issues took center stage during the Assembly discussions, including access to energy, energy security, and the energy transition. Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General of the ISA, stressed the imperative to accelerate solar energy adoption, particularly in developing countries. The ISA celebrated several milestone projects, including solarization initiatives in Malawi's parliament building, healthcare centers in Fiji, a solar-powered cold storage in Seychelles, and solar installations in schools across Kiribati. The ISA is facilitating solar projects in 55 developing nations, providing training to thousands and establishing STAR Centers as repositories of solar energy expertise.

Mr. Rodrigo Fincheira's engagement in India extended beyond the ISA Assembly sessions, pursuing insightful meetings underlining the Dominican Republic's dedication to exploring cutting-edge advancements in the renewable energy sector. The aims of these meetings held in Bangalore and New Delhi was to gain comprehensive insights into technologies and innovative solutions offered by Indian companies and organizations in the field of renewable energy and green development.
