He shared how, sixteen years ago, the first seeds of the bilateral engagements among the two countries were planted. He stressed the importance of the recent opening of the Indian Embassy in Santo Domingo, in January 2022, which he hailed as a major milestone in the Indo-Dominican relationship.

Ambassador Puig also remarked how, in the last decade, the bilateral trade between the Dominican Republic and India has grown exponentially, reaching 1 billion dollars in 2021, and placing India amongst the five main trading partners of the Dominican Republic. He then continued by stating that the areas of investment, cooperation, higher education and culture have been identified by the Mission as the essential ones to push the relationship forward, through increased people to people contact.

The reception was held at the ITC Maurya Hotel, New Delhi, and guests were offered a signature welcome drink, made with Dominican rum, and Dominican cigars as souvenirs.
